Chair in the bunker

This machine is lethal, but that's not its purpose. It stands in a windowless child's room and looks like an electric chair, complete with ankle cuffs, straps, and power cables. There's a metal ring at head height.

Deadly experiments

It's really a prototype time machine built by Sic Mundus. The chair stands in the bunker near the Winden cave tunnel. In 1986, Noah and Helge Doppler carry out experiments on live subjects. Their guinea pigs? Winden's missing children.

The machine hasn't been perfected. The children are sent through time – Mads Nielsen to 2019, Erik Obendorf and Yasin Friese to 1953 – but die in the process. The energy in the metal ring scorches their eyes.

Season 2 : episode 3

The chair works

Noah and Sic Mundus make improvements to the machine over the next six months. The metal ring no longer just encloses the eyes, it wraps around the entire body. Noah is finally able to send a child through time alive: Helge Doppler, who had traveled through a rift in time from 1953 to 1986 as a boy. As Noah starts the machine, Helge squeezes a string with a penny in his hand.
